So things took off real fast with Run Geeks Run with lots of enthusiasm…then phtptpt. Nada. So here’s three things to do this weekend:
- Invite five friends who you think should do a bit more running to join the RGR Social Network.
- Go for a run. Even just a mile around your house if you’re new to it. If you’re already a runner, then do whatever you usually do. But just go.
- Come back here or to the RGR Network and tell everyone about it.
Eventually we’ll get around to scheduling some runs. If you’re running somewhere, add an event to the RGR Network and see if you can pick up a few run buddies.

We’ve started the Run, Geeks, Run! social network for geek runners. We’ve got groups started for Portland, Bend, North Carolina, and Silicon Valley so far. You can sign up and join a group, or start a new group if you live somewhere else. I put the network together on Ning and it features profile pages, event listings, forums, and a running blog for each geek runner. We’re also piping in this blog’s RSS feed to the front page so you can get it either here or there. And since running alone usually sucks, make sure to invite your geek friends to join. We’ll start setting up events soon.

Today on Twitter (or FriendFeed or Pownce or Plurk or something), someone suggested going for a run and then Scoble chimed in that sounded like fun and that geeks should exercise more and then when Scoble chimes in, all hell breaks loose. Next thing you know, we’ve got a blog and we’re organizing monthly 5k runs for geeks.
But when you break it down, he’s right. We do need to exercise more. And what better way to do it than to get together with other geeks for a few miles once a month? I’m sure some of you are sub-3:00 marathoners and others of you haven’t left your parent’s basement in months, but it doesn’t really matter. When we get together to run, I have a feeling it’ll be more of a social thing anyways. We’ll probably split up into the “Fast Group” and the “I Can’t Believe I’m Running Group” on each of the runs so you’ll be running with people you feel comfortable running with.
Go ahead and subscribe to the RSS for updates. You can also follow @rungeeksrun on Twitter. And because we’re geeks, go ahead and blog it, retweet it, post it…you know what to do. Then pay attention because once we figure out what we’re doing, we’ll post the first Geek Run here.
Now get out there and run!
